ஐக்கிய அரபு எமிரேட்ஸ் நாட்டில் வேலை செய்யும் இந்தியர்கள் கடந்த ஆறு ஆண்டுகளில் செய்து கொண்ட தற்கொலைக் கணக்கைப் பார்ப்போம். 2003இல் 40, 2004இல் 70, 2005இல் 84, 2006இல் 109, 2007இல் 118, 2008 ஜூன்வரைக்கும் 79 பேரும் தற்கொலை செய்திருக்கிறார்கள் (THE TIMES OF INDIA, 28.7.08). இந்த ஆண்டு தற்கொலை செய்தவர்களில் 23 பேர்கள் தமிழகத்தைச் சேர்ந்தவர்கள். மீதிப்பேர் கேரளா மற்றும் ஏனைய மாநிலங்களைச் சேர்ந்தவர்கள். மொத்தத்தில் தமிழகம், கேரளாவைச் சேர்ந்தோரே கணிசமாக உள்ளனர். காரணம் வளைகுடா நாடுகளில் இவ்விரு மாநிலங்களைச் சேர்ந்தவர்கள்தான் அதிகம். மேலும் இந்தப் புள்ளிவிவரம் ஒரு நாட்டிற்கு மட்டும்தான் என்பதால் ஏனைய வளைகுடா நாடுகளின் விவரங்களைச் சேர்த்தால் கணக்கு இன்னும் அதிகமாகும். வேலை செய்யும்போது விபத்தில் கொல்லப்படும் தொழிலாளர்களின் கணக்கு இதில் சேரவில்லை.
ஏழ்மையிலும், அவலத்திலும், வேலையின்மையிலும் இழுபட்டுச் செல்லும் வாழ்க்கையில் வானத்து நட்சத்திரமாக தூரத்தில் நமக்கொரு வாழ்க்கை உண்டெனும் நம்பிக்கையைத் துளிர்விடச் செய்வது வளைகுடா வேலை வாய்ப்புகள். தமிழகத்தின் படித்த நடுத்தர வர்க்கம் நகரத்து தகவல் தொழில் நுட்பத் துறையின் பசுமையைக் காணும் வாய்ப்பைப் பெற்றிருப்பதற்கு மாறாக படிக்காத வர்க்கத்திற்கும், உழைக்கும் மக்களுக்கும் உள்நாட்டில் நம்பிக்கையளிக்கும் வாய்ப்புகள் எல்லாம் பாலைவனமாய்க் காய்ந்து கிடக்கின்றன.
காட்டு வெள்ளத்தில் இழுபட்டுச் செல்லும் வாழ்க்கையில் கரையேறத் துரும்பில்லாத நிலையில் கிராமத்தில் ஓரிருவர் அரபு நாடுகளுக்கோ, மலேசியாவுக்கோ சென்றால் நம்பிக்கை துளிர் விடத் துவங்குகிறது. சென்றவர்கள் அடைந்த சிரமங்கள் மறைந்து, கொண்டு வரப்போகும் அதிருஷ்டங்கள் மனதை ஆக்கிரமிக்கின்றன. அதற்கு மேலும் காத்திருக்காமல் வெளிநாடு செல்லும் ஆசை, கனவுலகிலிருந்து இறங்கி நனவை சாத்தியமாக்க முனைகிறது. அந்த முயற்சியில் குடும்பமே தன்னை மறந்து எதிர்பார்ப்புடன் ஈடுபடுகிறது. விளையாத துண்டு நிலத்தை விற்பது, குண்டுமணித் தங்கத்தைச் சேகரித்து அடகுவைப்பது, இறுதியில் பெரும் தொகையைக் கந்து வட்டிக்கு வாங்குவது என முயற்சிகள் தீவிரமடைகின்றன.
பிறகு அந்த நாளும் வருகிறது. ஊர் கூடி வாழ்த்த குடும்பமே மகிழ்ச்சியில் திளைத்திருக்க விமானமேறி வெளிநாடு செல்கிறார்கள். இதில் திருட்டு விசாவில் செல்கிறவர்கள், சுற்றுலா விசாவில் போனவர்கள், கடவுச்சீட்டை அடமானம் கொடுத்து அல்லல் படுபவர்கள், இறுதியில் மலேசியச் சிறைகளில் சாட்டையடிபட்டு வாடுபவர்கள், அடுத்து எப்படியாவது இந்தியா திரும்பமாட்டோமா என்று தோல்வியுறுபவர்களின் கதையை விடுவோம். முறையான வழிகளில் சென்றவர்களாவது முழுநிறைவை அடைந்து தன் குடும்பத்தில் விளக்கேற்றுகிறார்களா?
அரபு நாடுகளின் சம்பள விகிதம் முன்பைக்காட்டிலும் கணிசமாக குறைந்திருக்கிறது. குறைந்த சம்பளத்தில் வேலை செய்வதற்கு ஏனைய தெற்காசிய நாடுகளின் பஞ்சைப்பராரிகள் தயாராக இருப்பதால் 80களின் பொற்கால வளைகுடாப் பணி இன்று இல்லை. இந்த உண்மை அங்கு சென்ற பிறகே தொழிலாளர்களுக்கு புரியவருகிறது. இருந்தாலும் கடந்த காலத்தின் எச்சம் மனதில் வேர் விட்டிருப்பதால் அரபு மயக்கம் குறைந்தபாடில்லை.
மற்ற தற்கொலைகளுக்கும் வளைகுடாவில் நடப்பதற்கும் பாரிய வேறுபாடு இருக்கிறது. அவல வாழ்வில் மகிழ்ச்சியையும், புதிய வாசல்களையும் ஒரு பண்புமாற்றம் போல திறக்கச்செய்யவேண்டிய இந்தக் கனவு மொட்டிலேயே கருகுவது ஏன்? கடன் ஏற்படுத்தும் நெருக்கடியும், குடும்பத்தின் எதிர்ப்பார்ப்பும்தான் காரணங்கள். வெளிநாடு செல்வதற்கு விசா எடுக்க, போக்குவரத்து, தரகர் கழிவு என்று சில இலட்சங்களைச் செலவு செய்யக் கை கொடுப்பது கந்து வட்டிக் கடன்தான். இந்தக் கடனை அடைக்குமளவு வெளிநாட்டின் வேலையும் சம்பளமும் அமைவதில்லை. கிடைக்கும் சம்பளத்தின் பாதியை தங்குமிடம், உணவு போன்றவற்றிற்காக நிறுவனங்கள் பிடித்துக்கொள்கின்றன. தனியாகத் தங்கினாலும் கால் வயிற்றுக் கஞ்சி மட்டும் குடித்துக் கொண்டு ஓட்டினாலும் செலவு குறைவாதாயில்லை. சில வருடங்கள் பல்லைக் கடித்துக்கொண்டு ஓடிவிட்டால் நிச்சயம் வழி பிறக்குமெனத் தொழிலாளிகள் காத்திருக்கின்றனர்.
இடையில் இந்தக் கஷ்டங்களை அறியாத குடும்பத்தினர் எதிர்பார்ப்புகளை தெரிவித்தவாறு நெருக்குகின்றனர். தங்கையின் திருமணம், தம்பியின் படிப்பு, சொந்த வீடு கட்டுவது, மனை வாங்கிப் போடுவது, எல்லாவற்றுக்கும் மேல் வெளிநாடு செல்ல வாங்கிய கடனை அடைக்கவேண்டிய நிர்ப்பந்தம் எல்லாம் சேர்ந்து கெடு விதிக்கின்றன. இந்த அழுத்தத்தில் தத்தளிக்கும் தொழிலாளிகள் எதிர்காலத்திலாவது நல்ல சம்பளம் கிடைக்கும் என்று அரபு நாடுகளிலேயே கடன் வாங்குகின்றனர். நிறுவனத்தில் கொத்தடிமைபோல வாழ்வேன் என்று ஒப்பந்தம் போட்டுக்கொண்டு முன்பணம் வாங்குகின்றனர். வங்கிகளில் கடன் கிடைக்கவில்லை என்றால் கடன் அட்டைகளை வாங்குகின்றனர். அதுவும் போதாது எனும்போது கந்து வட்டிக்கு கடனும் வாங்குகின்றனர். ஊர்ப்புறங்களில் குடிகொண்டிருக்கும் கந்து வட்டி கடல் கடந்தும் ராஜ்ஜியத்தை விரித்திருக்கிறது.
எனினும் இந்த ராஜ்ஜியத்தில் அடிமைகளுக்கு கதிமோட்சம் இல்லை. எதிர்பார்த்த வாழ்வு இனி கிடைக்கப் போவதில்லை எனும் அவல யதார்த்தத்தைப் புரிந்து கொள்ளும் தொழிலாளிகள் அதற்கு விடைதேடும் முகமாக தமது உயிரைத் துறக்கும் துணிச்சலான முடிவை நோக்கித் தள்ளப்படுகிறார்கள். பொறுப்புணர்வோடும், வீட்டிற்கு ஏதாவது செய்யவேண்டுமென்ற பாசமும் நிறைந்திருக்கும் இந்தத் தொழிலாளிகள் எவ்வளவு மன உளைச்சலுடன் இந்த முடிவை எடுத்திருப்பார்கள்? கடல் கடந்து தீர்வு தேடிய கனவு இடையிலேயே கருகிப் போகிறது. மகன் வழி திறப்பான் என்று ஆவலுடன் வாழ்ந்துகொண்டிருக்கும் குடும்பம் செய்வதறியாது திகைத்து நிற்கிறது. ஆயினும் இந்த சோக முடிவுகள் ஊருக்குள் கருக்கொண்டிருக்கும் வெளிநாட்டு மோகத்தைக் கலைத்து விடுவதில்லை.
அமெரிக்காவின் கணிப்பொறி நிறுவனங்களுக்காக இலட்சங்களில் சம்பளம் வாங்கச் செல்லும் மேட்டுக்குடியினருக்கு எல்லாப் பாதுகாப்பு ஏற்பாடுகளையும் செய்யும் அரசு வளைகுடாவின் தொழிலாளிகளை ஏறெடுத்தும் பார்ப்பதில்லை. விபத்திலோ, தற்கொலையிலோ இறந்துபோகும் தொழிலாளிகளின் பிணங்கள் தாய்நாடு வருவதற்கே சில வாரங்கள் ஆகிவிடுகின்றது. இதற்கான நிவாரணத் தொகையை நிறுவனங்களிலிருந்து வாங்குவதற்குக்கூட வளைகுடாவிலிருக்கும் இந்தியத் தூதரகங்கள் உதவுதில்லை. வாழ்ந்த போதும், வாழ்வு முடிந்த போதும் மதிப்போ, மரியாதையோ ஏழைகளுக்கு இல்லை. மொத்தத்தில் வளைகுடா கனவுகளின் மறுபக்கம் இதுதான்.
சலிக்காமல் கனவுகளை ஏற்றுமதி செய்யும் தமிழகத்தில் வாழ்க்கை எப்படி இருக்கிறது? விதவைகள் வாழ்வுரிமை இயக்கம் எனும் அமைப்பு துவங்கியுள்ள கலங்கரை என்ற தன்னார்வத் தொண்டு நிறுவனம் குறிப்பிட்டுள்ள ஒரு ஐ.நா சபையின் ஆய்வுப்படி இந்தியாவில் 15 முதல் 59 வயதுவரை உள்ள பெண்களில் ஆயிரத்தில் 53பேர் விதவைகளாம் (குமுதம் ரிப்போர்ட்டர், 17.7.08). தமிழ்நாடு, புதுச்சேரியில் மட்டும் இந்த விகிதம் நூற்றுக்கு ஏழுபேராம். அதன்படி ஆயிரத்திற்கு எழுபது பேர். நாட்டிலேயே விதவைகளின் விகிதம் தமிழ்நாட்டில்தான் அதிகமாம். இந்த அதிக விதவை விகிதத்திற்கு என்ன காரணம்?
தமிழ்நாடு குடிகாரர்களின் தேசமாக மாறிவருவதுதான் இந்த நிலைக்கு காரணம். டாஸ்மாக் விற்பனையின் மூலம் தமிழக அரசுக்கு ஆண்டொன்றுக்கு 9000 கோடி ரூபாய் வருமானம் வருகிறது என்றால் குடிப்பவர்களின் எண்ணிக்கையையும், குடியின் அளவையும் ஊகித்தறியலாம். நகரமயமாக்கம் உருவாக்கியிருக்கும் புதிய உடழைப்பு வேலைகள் காரணமாக உதிரிப் பாட்டாளிகள் அன்றாடம் பெறும் கூலியில் கணிசமான அளவை சாராயக்கடையில் அள்ளிக் கொடுக்கின்றனர். மிதமாக ஆரம்பிக்கும் குடிப்பண்பு பின்பு மிதமிஞ்சியதாக மாறி குடிக்கு அடிமையாக மாற்றிவிடுகிறது.
எனவே இந்தப்பிரிவினர் 40, 50 வயதுகளில் கல்லீரல் கெட்டு மரணத்தைத் தழுவுகின்றனர். இம்மக்கள் பார்க்கும் கடின உழைப்பு வேலைகள் உடல் சோர்வை மறக்கக் குடித்தே ஆகவேண்டும் என்ற நிலையை உருவாக்கியிருப்பதும் உண்மைதான். குடிக்கும் நடுத்தரவர்க்கம் போதிய உணவை எடுத்துக்கொள்வதாலும், அவர்களுக்கு கடின உழைப்பு வேலைகள் இல்லை என்பதோடு குடியும் அளவுக்குட்பட்டு இருப்பதாலும் இளவயது மரணம் இவர்களிடத்தில் பொதுவில் இல்லை. ஆனால் உழைக்கும் வர்க்கமோ சத்தான உணவைச் சாப்பிட வாய்ப்பில்லாமலும், இருக்கும் காசை குடியில் கொட்டுவதாலும் மரணம் வாசலைத் தட்டுகிறது. ஆக திருமணம் ஆன பெண்கள் இளம் வயதிலேயே விதவையாகிறார்கள்.
விதவைகள் மற்றவர்களைப் போல வாழ்வதும், மறுவாழ்வு பெறுவதும் இயல்பாக முடியுமென்ற நிலை இன்னும் வரவில்லை. விதவைகளைப் புறக்கணிக்கும் பிற்போக்குச் சமூகமாகவே தமிழகம் நீடிக்கிறது. புத்தாடை அணிந்தாலே மினுக்கிகிட்டுத் திரிகிறாள் என்று பேசுவதும், மங்கல நிகழ்ச்சிகளில் ஒதுக்குவதும் இன்றும் சமூகத்தில் சாதாரணம்தான். அவ்வளவு ஏன் மேற்கண்ட விதவைகள் சங்கம், கூட்டம் நடத்துவதற்குக்கூட பல திருமண மண்டப உரிமையாளர்கள் புனிதத்தைக் காரணம் காட்டி அனுமதி மறுத்துவிட்டனராம்.
பெண்கள் கைம்பெண்களாவதும், வளைகுடா தொழிலாளர்கள் தற்கொலை செய்வதும் நாளிதழ்களின் செய்தியலைகளில் ஒதுங்கிவிட்ட இருபிரிவினரின் வாழ்க்கை மட்டுமல்ல. அதன் சங்கிலித் தொடர் வாழ்க்கையில் அல்லல் படும் மக்கள் ஏராளம் இருக்கின்றனர். தோல்வியும், விரக்தியும், சலிப்பும், சோர்வும் இன்னபிற சோகங்களையும் ஏற்றுக்கொண்டு வாழ்வதற்கு பழக்கப்படுத்தப்பட்ட மக்கள் வாழும் நாட்டில் “இந்தியா முன்னேறுகிறது, வல்லரசாகிறது” என்று சொல்வது சிரமம் இல்லையே?

The data you have given on widows and drinking in tamil nadu is not sufficient to conclude anything.One would need more information and data to put forward a preliminary hypothesis.For example one need to know the age-group wise break up of data in tamil nadu and in other states age-group wise data on deaths on account of addiction to alcohol in tamil nadu and other states even to get a crude understanding.
Indian govt. is not totally indifferent to the problems faced and plight of workers from India in the Gulf and elsewhere.Perhaps more needs to be done.But a part of the problem lies with workers also as they often violate visa rules and are gullible.The govt. does not do anything extraordinary for those going to USA as
IT professionals.As most of them are employees of Indian firms and the H1B visa
stipulates conditions like minimum salary, their condition is far better.Similarly
those who go for study and research/education (J1 visa) have to show proof of financial support or sponsorship.
I am not convinced by your arguments, nor can I concur with the conclusions because
analysis is weak and is not supported by data or facts.Of course the so called
left cares more for politically correct statements than any analysis supported by
data. As long as you supply that they will praise you.

Let us consider that author of the article does not have detailed age-group wise drinkers data. But he has given UN report and Kumudham reporter data regarding widows (I don’t know whether you are satisfied with this data or not). You have clearly mentioned that you are not convinced by the arguments in this article. It indicates that you have strong feeling/data to make these arguments are wrong. Why can’t you bring it out? or give us a link to those data?
Why can’t you give information which says that drinking habit has improved the standard of living of the Indians (in particular Tamilians) or the society?

Article clearly discusses the plight of the workers those go to Gulf. It is because, in our society opportunity is not available equally to all. For example, Hindu religion tells that barber’s son has to do that work only.

I have not claimed that drinking has improved the standards of living.If you
cant understand what I had written it is better you start agains from Class I.

workers from other countries in Asis go to Gulf in search of greener pastures.

As a class I student following things comes to my mind. In hindu religion, Higher caste persons are not ready to allow the lower caste persons into their home. But, why do those higher caste persons eat the vegetables, rice, milk, etc produced by the lower caste people? you wash those food items so the so called “sin” is removed? Wait, then while doing face shaving in a barber’s shop, if there is wound then will you chance entire blood of your body?

Note the fact that the article talks about difficulties faced by the labours who are travelling to abroad. It has nothing to do with higher caste and lower caste.
Also the assumption of only higher caste is travelling to abroad in office work is not correct. I do accept that the numbers are higher for them.
How ever you should note that there is no separate provision provied to the NRIs who are working in the office by the government. Instead the companies in which they are going takes care of all the activities which generally includes the ticket to and fro if they are continuing in the same company.
Secondly they are not paying any amount in order to get the foreign oppurtunity and everything is taken care by the companies who send them. And of course they are paid high compared to the labours and even if the company did not provide ticket they can come on their own.
But on the other hand labours are paying very high amount (beyond their capabilities) and then earning less amount. After they realize that the money they have earned is not enough for even settling their loan barrowed for travelling abroad then they are over staying which is against the law in any country (this includes India also). If they are not captured by the police they are lucky but if they are captured by the police then they are suffering in the prison and after completing the punishment they are handed over to the Indian embassy.
So instead of targetting the higher earning person try to educate the labours not to travel abroad by paying beyond their capabilities and there are reputed organizations recognized by the government ask them to approach it. Instead of approaching some unknown organization.
Also as usual the backward extremist started their propaganda agains the forward caste. I have seen a tremendous changes in the mentality of the forward caste against discrimination but unfortunately on the other hand OBCs are started doing their discrimination against SCs/STs (all the recent attrocities against SC and ST is done by OBC Ex. Uttapuram, Law college and several more) and as well as against the FCs using the internet. So currently instead of pointing the fingures against FC try to correct it yourself.
First of all, the people coming here should be well quaflied and to be prepared mentally to face the overseas problems. Apart from these, wages for the labours and skilled labours are reasonably reduced due to overflow of asian countries people from Pakistan, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka.
I have been seeing for the last 8 years, the low level immigrants from India are suffering a lot of mental & physical tortures from others. Really I am quite surprised that, why people are coming here for a merely salary of around 5000 to 8000 IRS by spending more than one lakh IRS.
I have been working here for the last 8 years, started my carrier from Accountant to Finance Manager. If you are Sincere, Honest, Faithful, Moral & Well qualified, definitely you can achieve a good carrier and remuneration. But these all will depends upon your favour of luck. Especially I am helpless and unable to provoke some of my open hearted comments regarding the problems of labours from India. I feared (not a kind of fear….. but leads to some arguments which every one wants to avoid as our country is now facing the same problems). My honest request is if you r a Hindu, come here with full of confidence, relevant basic qualifications with experience, fulent in English with excellent communication skills, a solid mentality to face all the tribulations (even you can’t imagine in which way it will comes), Otherwise………please don’t come…………..
Regarding Liquor consumption in Gulf, most of the people here are drinking to erase the memory of their problems, to load their time which is killing them as lonelyness.
All over the Gulf, anybody can get liquor by spending 25Dirhams, even the vendor will offering them a monthly credit. When the salary day comes, they will come and collect the outstandings at any cost. Another main issue related to telecommunication. Most of the people are spending more than their salary by buying mobile cards. The third and the main one is prostitution. In Dubai and all other emirates the situation is more than Mumbai. Spend 50 Dirhams and you can get a Indian, Pakistani, Chinese, Russian, Irani, Iraqi, Palestine, Lenabese & most of the world wide prostitutes for half an hour.
The people whose are overtaking the above 3 are safely forwarding their life peaceful and happiness and others reflected negatively.
I would like to write a long serial about the life here. But time not allows me.
We can’t blame others for our problems. But we can change ourselves by learn from our previous mistakes. As you mentioned about suicides and other issues, the problems facers are mostly uneducated and innocent people, whose are exploited by the travel agents and overestimated promises.
Kerala is the leader for liquor consumption in India. How its happened? Half of the population is migrated to overseas. This is the reason.

99.99% are suffered on their first assignment worstly including me. When you got desparated, please be calm, quiet, thinking about your family, work hard, don’t spend unnecessarily. Try to improve your experience and contacts. After 1 or 2 year you can get a better job certainly. Then make your self comfortable, enjoy the life. Don’t think about suicide which is assigned for cowards. Remind the two points. 1. Nothing is impossible to a willing heart. 2. Success is not a permanent, Failure is not final. So never stop working after success and never stop trying after failure.
