ஈழத்தில் இறுதி தாக்குதல் என்ற பெயரில் தமிழ் மக்களின் மீது சிங்கள இனவெறி இராணுவம் தொடுத்திருக்கும் போரில் அன்றாடம் பல பத்து மக்கள் கொல்லப்படுகின்றனர். இந்தப் போரில் இந்தியா ஈடுபட்டிருக்கிறது என்பதற்கான ஆதாரங்களும் தற்போது வெளிவந்து கொண்டிருக்கின்றன. தமிழக மாணவர்களிடம் ஈழம் தொடர்பாக ஒரு விழிப்புணர்வு வந்திருப்பதை தடை செய்ய நினைத்த அரசு காலவரையற்ற விடுமுறை அறிவித்து 12.02.09 அன்று திறப்பதாக அறிவித்து செயல்படுத்தியது. திறந்த அன்றே திருச்சி நகரின் எல்லாக் கல்லூரி மற்றும் பள்ளி மாணவர்களை அணிதிரட்டிய புரட்சிகர மாணவர் இளைஞர் முன்னணி திருச்சி மத்திய பேருந்து அருகே உள்ள 117ஆவது பிரேதச இராணுவப்படை தலைமை அலுவலகத்தை முற்றுகை இட்டது. இந்தியாவின் இராணுவ அமைப்பையே எதிர்த்து மாணவர்கள் போராடியதைக் கண்டு அதிர்ச்சியுற்ற போலீசு உடனே வந்து போராட்டத்தை நிறுத்துவதற்கு முயன்றது. ஆனால் மாணவர்கள் உறுதியாக நின்று முற்றுகைப் போராட்டத்தை நடத்தினர்.
திருச்சி அரசு சட்டக்கல்லூரியின் மாணவரும் பு.மா.இ.மு மாவட்ட இணைச் செயலாளருமான த.கிளர்ச்சியாளன் போராட்டத்திற்கு தலைமை தாங்கினார். பாரதிதாசன் பல்கலைக் கழகத்தைச் சேர்ந்த பு.மா.இ.மு வின் ஆல்பர்ட் முன்னிலை வகித்தார். உருமு தனலட்சுமி கல்லூரி பு.மா.இ.முவின் கிளைச் செயலாளர் சங்கத்தமிழன் கண்டன உரையாற்றினார். கல்லூரி திறந்த அன்றே இந்த போராட்டத்தை நடத்தியதைக் கண்டு அஞ்சிய போலீசு முன்னணியாளர்களை கைது செய்வதற்கு திட்டம் தீட்டியிருப்பதாக தெரிகிறது. மாணவர்களும் இதை எதிர்பார்த்து போராட்டத்தை தீவிரமாக நடத்துவதற்கும் தயாராகி வருகின்றனர்.

Kuliyapitiya, Sri Lanka–In a parking lot off the main street of this town in Sri Lanka’s lush “coconut triangle,” a recruiting drive is taking place.
Standing next to a red school bus emblazoned with military posters and with loudspeakers mounted in the windows, three army commandos chat with a group of young men who seem impressed by the soldiers’ camouflage uniforms, special forces badges and high-cut leather boots.
Posters around this town a three-hour drive north of Colombo show pictures of local youths who have enlisted and ask residents to donate blood. Radio ads encourage people to “join the winning side.”
It’s understandable why the army has focused on Kuliyapitiya. Smaller farming communities such as this one, where job prospects are scarce, have been especially fertile ground for Sri Lanka’s military in its decades-long civil war against the separatist Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam.
“It used to be that kids grew up wanting to be doctors and lawyers; now they want to join the army,” said Chandana Bulathsinhala, who works for an opposition member of parliament here.
The recruitment has come at a cost. This area of 150,000 has buried 5,000 soldiers over the past few years, Bulathsinhala said. In recent months, there have been as many as three funerals a week.
Sitting on a sagging mattress in her cramped clay-tiled roof home, a cat curled up next to her, Kusuma Gunawardana wiped away tears as she talked about her son.
Two weeks ago, the 24-year-old soldier disappeared near Elephant Pass, a key access point to the Jaffna peninsula in the north. The police came to tell Gunawardana her tall, thin boy had vanished in a firefight against the Tigers.
“There’s been nothing since then. No offers of help, nothing,” she sobbed. “I want to know what’s happened to him. I want to end this feeling.”
Steps from Gunawardana’s front door, a poster pays tribute to Alimanka, a local commando who died during fighting in Jaffna. “Brother, you have not died. You bloom as a flower among us.”
Brig. Udaya Nanayakkara said 3,700 Sri Lankan soldiers have been killed since July 2006.
The families of fallen soldiers keep receiving their paycheques – Gunawardana still gets about $220 a month – until a time when they would have reached age 55.
Families also get a lump-sum payment worth about $820. That figure is doubled if the soldier was married, Nanayakkara said.
But it’s small solace to Gunawardana. “This government is to blame as well,” she said. “How many more boys have to die? It would have been better to have him living and not go in the military, even if we had to go and beg.”
The difference between Colombo and towns like Kuliyapitiya is striking. In Sri Lanka’s oceanside capital, the war is celebrated.
Last weekend, at a cultural fair called Deyata Kirula, hundreds of thousands of spectators packed a fairground to see signs of Sri Lanka’s progress.
The most popular exhibits were the military ones. Crowds crushed around a recently captured Tamil Tigers submarine. Children sat on anti-aircraft guns and next to grenade launchers as grinning parents snapped photos. At one exhibit, a soldier showed a pair of Buddhist monks how to work an AK-47 rifle.
But for many families, the wounds will never heal.
On Jan. 9, 1997, Samantha Perera went missing during fighting in Jaffna. Three years later, the military declared him dead, though his body hasn’t been recovered.
Nine years on, the family still can’t put up his photo because his father can’t take the pain.
“He cries at least two or three times a day, still,” said Jayantha Perera, Samantha’s younger brother. “He’s not the same person.”
Back in Kuliyapitiya, 19-year-old Koolitha Mancanayaka said goodbye to his friends, hours after enlisting. Just as the poster ordered, he was ready to go to war.
“My family at first wasn’t impressed with my decision,” he said. “But they have given a good verdict now.”

Sinhala Elite maintain the class difference
This clearly paints an underlying but persistent issue that allows the ethnic issue in Sri Lanka to still smolder after 60 years of independence. Ruling Sinhala elite and their western educated families (Note; present Army Commander and Defense Secretary are American citizens) have ridden on the lives of ordinary uneducated rural Sinhalese by inflaming the mythic Sinhala Patriotism whereby the Tamils were repeatedly portrayed as aliens and enemies, just to hold onto power. All general elections after independence were won or lost by the Sinhala elite political parties contesting on the Tamil issues. The only reason they admonish Prabhakaran is because he broke the class difference among Tamils which they don’t want to see happening among Sinhalese, which will lead to their eventual fall from power. No wonder, most of these elites have stashed their monies abroad, along with holding green cards. For how long will they spill the blood of the ordinary Sinhala man?

Pain is every where
This article brig light to the world that even the sinhale community also feeling the pain, what if Colombo high echelon’s kids are drafted into this war we could find a solution in 2 days. Since they have no idea what is death, and how families are destroyed. Sinhala Boys die for the chauvinistic government
I hope Sinhala, Tamil and English medias are free to report the real situation freely; so people of all Sri Lankans realize they missed out so many, such as freedom, economic development and harmony for the last 3 decades. Then, the Sinhala boys won’t fight for racist Sri Lankan agenda. I wonder how multiculturalism and pluralism that we enjoy in western country can be taught to the ruling Sinhala elites whose kids do not fight at the battle front. Tamils have no option; but will have to continue their fight against oppression. Instead of winning the Tamils militarily, the Sinhala government should win Tamils with good heart and mind by treating them same as the Sinhala majority. Democracy is just not about majoritism by which only the majority groups’ wishes are taken care of. Sadly, that’s the case in Sri Lanka.

Srilankan gov’t celebrate the war against the Tamils. Thus, they pay the poor Singhalese youths and pressure them to join the army. What a role model Srilankan gov’t for the youth? I feel so sorry for the SL forces and their families. But, the Sri Lankan military is not exactly graceful victors. They die only after slaughtering hundreds of Tamil babies and children, women and men, and after ruining thousands of lives. Can one imagine what a Tamil mother’s life would be like after her baby’s head was blown off while running for their lives? Can one imagine what the future would be like for a child who lost both his arms and legs? Can the Sinhalese realize Tamils also have families and that they are also human beings? Can they speak against the killings of Tamils? No, that won’t happen.

The poor pay the price
In the last two years 6 Tamil MPs democratically elected have been killed 11 Journalist have been killed 37 Aid workers have been killed None of which have been investigated. I would sincerely hope that journalistic freedom will continue to be so in perhaps the freest fairest country in the world. Only then these poor Sinhala youths will know the truth. The SL politicians and the Generals hold American Citizenship and then brain wash these poor victims to kill their own people(if SL believes that Tamils are Srilankans too). Over 15,000 troops have deserted the forces, and around 2000 of them are in Prison for deserting the forces. Why would the sinhala youths run away from the armed forces? Some realize that the war against the tamils in not just, but it’s too late; they have to face charges for deserting the armed forces.

I was a Srilankan Naval officer, It is true that the India helped Srilankan Army, Navy and the Airforce during this Congress government . Srilankan troops are not capable to fight with LTTE alone. They are fighting with LTTE with all the air, land and sea suport given by the Indian troops and they do not have enough finance to carry on fighting with LTTE and India is giving all finance support as well.

If “Doctors without Borders” kind of organization taking 1000s of doctors and medical supplies go to Jaffna and Mannar area in Boats from Tamilnadu, who can stop it.. NO body, Neither India nor Srilanka can stop them. That is what Tamilnadu has to do right now.
