கடந்த செப்டம்பர் 26-ம் தேதி அதிகாலையில் ஆதித்தமிழர் பேரவையின் நிதிச் செயலாளர் நீலவேந்தன் அருந்ததிய மக்களுக்கு 6 சதவீத உள் ஒதுக்கீடு வழங்கக்கோரி, திருப்பூரில் நடுரோட்டில் தீக்குளித்து இறந்துள்ளார். உடலில் பெட்ரோலை ஊற்றிக்கொண்டு தீயைப் பற்ற வைத்ததும் ‘அருந்ததிய மக்களுக்கு 6 சதவீத உள் இட ஒதுக்கீட்டை வழங்கு’ என்று முழக்கம் எழுப்பியுள்ளார். உடல் முழுவதும் தீ பரவி அலறிய அவருடைய சத்தத்தைக் கேட்டு அருகில் இருந்தவர்கள் ஓடிவந்து தீயை அணைத்துள்ளனர். அதையடுத்து உடனடியாக அவர் மருத்துவமனைக்கு எடுத்துச் செல்லப்படுகிறார். ஆனால் போகும் வழியிலேயே இறந்துள்ளார். உயிர் பிரியும் தருணத்தில் “என் மக்கள் விழிப்படைவதற்காக தான் தீக்குளித்தேன்” என்று போலீசாரிடம் வாக்குமூலம் அளித்துள்ளார். அவருடைய பேன்ட் பாக்கெட்டிலிருந்து எடுக்கப்பட்ட கடிதத்திலும் உள் ஒதுக்கீட்டை வலியுறுத்தியே தற்கொலை செய்து கொண்டதாக எழுதியுள்ளார்.
நீலவேந்தன் சட்டம் பயின்றவர். ஆதித்தமிழர் பேரவையின் பொறுப்பில் இருந்து கொண்டு திருப்பூர் நீதி மன்றத்தில் வழக்குரைஞராகவும் பணியாற்றி வந்துள்ளார்.
கோவை மாவட்டத்தில் ஆர்.எஸ்.எஸ் கும்பலுக்கு நிதி உள்ளிட்ட அனைத்து ஆதரவுகளையும் வழங்கி வருபவர் பொள்ளாச்சி மகாலிங்கம். 2007 ஆம் ஆண்டு ‘உலகத் தமிழர் பேரமைப்பு’ என்கிற இயக்கம் திருப்பூரில் நடத்திய மாநாட்டில் பழ நெடுமாறன், பொள்ளாச்சி மகாலிங்கத்துக்கு ‘உலகப் பெரும் தமிழர்’ என்கிற பட்டத்தை வழங்கினார். அந்த மாநாட்டில் கலந்துகொண்ட முற்போக்காளர்கள் யாரும் மகாலிங்கத்துக்கு முன்னால் தமது முற்போக்கு கொள்கைகளை பேச வாயை கூடத் திறக்கத் துணியவில்லை, ஆனால் மகாலிங்கமோ தனது ஆர்.எஸ்.எஸ் கொள்கைகளை அனைவருக்கும் வகுப்பெடுத்துக் கொண்டிருந்தார். தமிழையும், தமிழனையும் இழிவுபடுத்தினார், சமஸ்கிருதத்தை உயர்ந்த மொழி என்றும், தேவ மொழி என்றும் கொண்டாடினார். அவர் அங்கு பேச இருப்பதை முன்னமே சிறு நூலாக அச்சிட்டு மாநாட்டுக்கு வந்தவர்களுக்கு விநியோகித்து ஆர்.எஸ்.எஸ் பிரச்சாரமும் நடந்து கொண்டிருந்தது.
கூட்டத்தில் பங்கேற்ற தமிழ் தேசிய ஆர்வலர்கள் யாரும் இதை கண்டுகொள்ளவில்லை, மாறாக நெடுமாறன் தொடங்கி வைகோ வரை அனைவரும் மகாலிங்கத்துக்கு முதுகு சொறிந்து கொண்டிருந்த அந்த மேடையில் நீலவேந்தன் என்கிற தோழர் மட்டும் தான் பொள்ளாச்சி மகாலிங்கத்தை அம்பலப்படுத்தி முழக்கமிட்டார். “சேரித் தமிழன் அவலத்தில் உழலும் போது, எந்தத் தமிழனின் தொழில் வணிகச் சிறப்பைப் பற்றிப் பேச முடியும்” என்று கேட்டு, சாதி ஒழிப்பின் அவசியத்தை வலியுறுத்தியவர், “இந்த மேடையிலேயே தமிழை இழிவுபடுத்தி சமஸ்கிருதத்தை உயர்த்திப் பிடிப்பவருக்கு உலகப் பெருந்தமிழர் விருது வழங்குவது தகுதியுடையதல்ல” என்றும் “பொள்ளாச்சியில் அரசுக் கல்லூரி வந்தால் தனது கல்வி வியாபாரம் பாதிக்கப்படும் என்பதால் அதைத் தடுத்து, சேரி இளைஞர்களோடு சேர்த்து தன் சாதி ஏழை இளைஞர்களுக்கும் அநீதி இழைத்துக் கொண்டிருப்பவருக்கு உலகப் பெருந்தமிழர் விருது தருவதை அங்கீகரிக்க முடியாது” என்றும் குறிப்பிட்டு, மகாலிங்கத்தின் ஆர்.எஸ்.எஸ் அரை டவுசரை அதே மேடையில் கழட்டினார். பெரியார் தி.க.வின் கோவை இராமகிருஷ்ணனும், மற்றவர்கள் பேசத் துணியாத நீலவேந்தனின் கருத்தை ஆதரித்துப் பேசியுள்ளார்.
நீலவேந்தன் இப்படி முழக்கமிட்டதும் நெடுமாறனுக்கு கோபம் வந்துவிட்டது. “இதையெல்லாம் இங்கே பேசக்கூடாது வெளியேறுங்கள்” என்றார். நீலவேந்தனோடு, மகாலிங்கத்தை எதிர்த்த ஆதித்தமிழர் பேரவையைச் சேர்ந்தோரும், கோவை இராமகிருஷ்ணனோடு வந்த பெரியார் தி.க.வினரும் அரங்கிலிருந்து வெளியேற்றப்பட்டனர். அப்போது வெளியான புதிய ஜனநாயகம் இதழில் நெடுமாறனின் ஆர்.எஸ்.எஸ் ஆதரவை கண்டித்தும், நீலவேந்தனை ஆதரித்தும் ஒரு கட்டுரை வெளியானது.
எந்த இடமானாலும் அநீதியை சகித்துக்கொள்ளாமல் தட்டிக் கேட்கும் பண்பைக் கொண்டிருந்த அந்த நீலவேந்தன் தான் தற்போது தற்கொலை செய்துகொண்டிருக்கிறார் என்பதை எண்ணும் போது அதிர்ச்சியாகவும், நம்ப முடியாமலும் இருக்கிறது. அருந்ததியர்களுக்கு உள் இட ஒதுக்கீட்டை வழங்க வேண்டும் என்பதையும், அதை எதிர்க்கும் பிற தலித்திய அமைப்புகளைக் கண்டித்தும் புதிய ஜனநாயகம் கடந்த காலத்தில் பல கட்டுரைகளை எழுதியுள்ளது.
அநீதியான இந்த சுரண்டல் சமூகத்திற்குள்ளேயே தலித் மக்களுக்கு சில வாய்ப்புகளை அளித்து அவர்களின் கோபமும், கொந்தளிப்பும் ஒட்டு மொத்த சமூக அமைப்பிற்கு எதிராக திரும்பிவிடாமல் மடை மாற்றிவிடுவதற்காக ஆளும் வர்க்கங்களால் வழங்கப்படுவது தான் இடஒதுக்கீடு உள்ளிட்ட உரிமைகள். அவை அமுல்படுத்தப்பட்ட காலத்திலிருந்து இன்று வரை தாழ்த்தப்பட்ட மக்களின் வாழ்க்கையில் ஒரு சிலரை நடுத்தர வர்க்கமாக மாற்றியதைத் தவிர வேறு எந்த பெரிய மாற்றத்தையும் ஏற்படுத்தியதில்லை. எனினும் அவர்களுக்கு வழங்கப்படும் இட ஒதுக்கீடு எனும் உரிமையையும் அதற்கான போராட்டத்தையும் நாம் எதிர்க்கவில்லை.
ஆயினும் நமது நீண்டகால போராட்டங்கள், கோரிக்கைகள் அனைத்தும் இந்த சுரண்டல் சமூக அமைப்பையே அடியோடு மாற்றியமைப்பதாக இருக்க வேண்டுமே தவிர, இந்த சமூக அமைப்பை தக்க வைத்துக் கொண்டே அதில் சில தற்காலிக உரிமைகளை பெறுவதோடு திருப்தியடைந்து விடக் கூடாது.
அருந்ததி மக்களுக்கான உள் ஒதுக்கீடு கோரிக்கை நியாயமானது, ஆனால், அதை வலியுறுத்தி தோழர் நீலவேந்தன் தற்கொலை செய்து கொண்டிருப்பது வருத்தத்தை அளிப்பதோடு, இது ஒரு சரியான போராட்ட முறை அல்ல என்பதையும் தெரிவிக்கத் தோன்றுகிறது.
நமது போராட்டங்களையே கண்டு கொள்ளாத அரசும் இந்த அமைப்பும் நமது தற்கொலைகளை மட்டும் கண்டு கொள்ளுமா என்ன? தாழ்த்தப்பட்ட மக்களும் பிற பிரிவு உழைக்கும் மக்களும் ஒன்றாக இணைந்து போராடும் வண்ணம் நமது அரசியலும், பார்வையும் இந்த சமூக அமைப்பை தூக்கி ஏறிவதற்கான பாதையில் செல்ல வேண்டும்.
தோழர் நீலவேந்தனது தற்கொலையையும் அவரது நினைவுகளையும் அத்தகைய சுய பரிசீலனையோடு மீட்டிப் பார்ப்போம். அதுதான் அவருக்கு செய்ய வேண்டிய சிறந்த அஞ்சலியாக இருக்கும்.

Thank you for running this Editorial after almost a week of the loss of one of the leading young dalit activist. I am bewildered at the way everybody talk or write about Neelavendan committed Suicide and died!. The total absence of mainstream media covering the death of Neelavendan is disturbing, the Tamil Nadu and Indian news that spend front page and full page articles on some low life actors or actress (as the call in India) silly life or their facebook photos, or playing with the dog, has no time and space to write about a young who spearheaded a fight against Oppression and human rights for the Arunthathiars. Not just the mainstream media, even the sporadic or least known dalit news writers did not write about tis event, the only place any body can read an editorial is on my upliftthem Blog.
Well, my point is multifold: Why the family of Neelavandan did not say anything about this death?, and why the Adhi Tamilar Pervai also did not say much about this death, everybody is buying the idea of some police report who saw the victim at the last moment of his life, what is the evidence that he committed suicide?, why would a courageous and honest young man who is known for daring public presentation and inspiring speech commit suicide?. And, if he committed suicide, why at a unknown small town that is neither a metro city or nor his own town?, and Why would anybody commit suicide in the middle of the night at 1.20 or 1.30 am?, if a suicide has some motivation of resolving a long pending problem, is not that person will commit suicide in broad day light in most popular place, as attention seeking is the Drive?, why would anybody do the way this victim did?. What is the real background of this suicide?. 1. Was a sick person with mental illness?, or other psychiatric or pain issues that push the patients to suicide?, 2. is he a drug addict or alcoholic or terminally ill?, 3. Is he suffering from abuse?, 4. is there any child abuse or other emotional disorder history?, 5. Is there any love failure or family problems? 6. Is there any issues with colleagues or co leaders in the organization he belong to?, 7. was he drugged or spiked and then pushed into this or forcefully made to do this?. These are some of the most relevant and legitimate questions people must have asked, shockingly not even some dalit leaders raised these questions. In the absence of family or friends side testimony or revelation of what is behind this death, and since no dalit groups raised, the general public or media or govt did not care much about it. Why there is so much silence in this death?. Even the most courageous and daring news groups like Vinavu, could not raise or ask these questions and accept some unknown persons report as suicide. And, as usual, the tamil groups and ltte groups uses his picture and connects him with their own agendas for selfish purposes, what a terrible tragedy?. What vinavu must do is to send a investigation team, you need to have a forensic or crime investigative writers in your organization so that they can do a thorough research, analysis and present a convincing argument to the people, we need answers to such mysterious death as Neelavandan. I personally do not know him, neither I read any of his work, all I know is watching some of his speeches and protests in the recent months and years via internet, he is outspoken, knowledgeable and I heard many internet connections telling me he was a genuine worker for dalit upliftment, and I can see that in few of his speeches………..Despite I know a little of this person, his death bothered me and I did not believe this is suicide…..there are signs and symptoms and indications for a suicidal person, he did not have much in this direction…….so why?. Why is this silence?.

The right way to fight for more reservation for Arunthathiyars who are one of the three major scheduled caste communities in Tamilnadu is not by committing suicide but by frequent representation and protests. In fact Arunthathiyars after the 3% inner reservation within SC/ST total quota of 18% are coming up than in earlier days and their selections are done better compared to the other two major SC/ST castes in terms of marks and standards with the latter scoring more for the same seat. Hence persons like Neela venthan could have waited for some time before demanding more representation. Hence some kind of politics is being played on his death.

நீல வேந்தனுடன் பேசும் போதும் பழகும் போதும், மனித நேய மாற்றுக் கருத்துக்கும் மதிப்பளித்து வளர்ந்தவர்- களப்பணியே தன் மூச்சு என போராடியே வாழ்ந்தவர். ‘எனக்கு தொழிலே எம் மக்களுக்கான சேவை’ தான் என ஒடுக்கப்பட்டோரின் குரல் வந்த இடமெல்லாம் ஓடோடி உழைத்தவர்.அவரது போராட்டமான சமூக பயணத்தை விரைவில் முடித்து கொண்டது, நம்மை போன்ற சமூக நல அக்கறை கொண்டவர்களுக்கு மிகுந்த வேதனை தரும் நிகழ்வு. சமூக சம உரிமைகளுக்கான போராட்டத்தில்,அறிவார்ந்த முடிவுகள் நமக்கு கசப்பை தந்தாலும் பொதுவான நல்லிணக்கத்தை உருவாக்கும், சில நேரங்களில் உணர்ச்சி கரமான முடிவுகள் பெரும்பாலும் நமது இலட்சியத்தை அல்லது வாழ்வை அழித்து விடும். தோழர் நீலவேந்தன் எடுத்த உணர்ச்சி கரமான முடிவு தனிமைப் படுத்தப்பட்டதாக இருக்கிறது. சமூக உளவியல் சார்ந்த சிக்கல்களை சக நண்பர்களுடன் பகிர்ந்து இருந்தால், நம் சமூகத்திற்கும்,சிறந்த களப் போராளியான நீலவேந்தனுக்கும் எதிர்காலம் சிறப்பாய் அமைந்திருக்கும்………
