தமிழக மக்களை மதுவால் கொல்லும் ஜெயா அரசின் டாஸ்மாக் கடைகளை மூடுமாறு “மக்கள் அதிகாரம்” அமைப்பினர் நடத்திய போராட்டங்களை அறிவீர்கள். இதன் அங்கமாக இரண்டு பாடல்கள் வெளியிடப்பட்டன. “மூடு டாஸ்மாக்கை மூடு, ஊத்திக் கொடுத்த உத்தமி போயசில் உல்லாசம்” என்ற இரண்டு பாடல்களும் வினவுத் தளத்தில் வெளியிடப்பட்டு இலட்சக்கணக்கானோரை சென்றடைந்தன. வாட்ஸ் அப் மற்றும் ஃபேஸ்புக் மூலம் இன்றளவும் இப்பாடல்கள் மிகப் பிரபலமாக மக்களால் கேட்கப்படுகின்றன. டாஸ்மாக்கை எதிர்க்கும் அனைத்துக் கட்சிகளும் இப்பாடல்களை வரவேற்றிருக்கின்றனர்.
மதுக்கடைகளை மூட மாட்டோம், தமிழக மக்களை வதைக்காமல் விட மாட்டோம் என்பதில் உறுதியாக இருக்கும் தமிழக அரசு ஏற்கனவே அடக்குமுறைகளை ஏவிவிட்டிருந்தது. டாஸ்மாக் கடைகளை அடித்து உடைத்த மாணவர்கள் – மக்கள் அதிகாரம் தோழர்களை கைது செய்து பல நாட்கள் சிறையில் அடைத்தது. அதன் தொடர்ச்சியாக இப்போது மக்கள் கலை இலக்கியக் கழகத்தின் மையக் கலைக்குழு தோழர் கோவன் கைது செய்யப்பட்டிருக்கிறார்.
இன்று 30.10.2015 வெள்ளி அதிகாலை 2.30 மணிக்கு திருச்சியில் தோழர் கோவன் வீட்டிற்குச் சென்ற சென்னை குற்றப் பிரிவு போலிசார் அவரைக் கைது செய்து செய்தனர். தற்போதைய நிலவரப்படி அவர் மீது 124 ஏ தேசத்துரோக நடவடிக்கை, 153 சமூகத்தில் இரு பிரிவினருக்கிடையில் மோதல் ஏற்படுத்துதல், 502/1 அவதூறு செய்தல் பிரிவுகளின் கீழ் வழக்கு பதிவு செய்திருக்கிறார்கள். அதே நேரம் தோழர் கோவனை கைது செய்து எங்கே வைத்திருக்கிறார்கள் என்பதை சொல்ல போலிசு மறுக்கிறது.

Revolutionary Singer arrested for song demanding shutdown of liquor shops
People’s Power, a mass organization in Tamil Nadu, has been conducting agitations demanding shutdown of liquor outlets run by state owned TASMAC. As part of this campaign, two popular video songs by People’s Art and Literary Association (PALA) “Moodu Tasmac-i Moodu – Shutdown TASMAC…” (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yZLrn1dKOF8)” and “oothi kodutha uthami… – the lady who served liquor makes merry in Poes garden” (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TH4oihCsZ3s) were released in Vinavu (vinavu.com) newszine and reached lakhs of viewers.
Inspite of sustained and widespread struggles and demand by all sections of society, the Jayalalithaa government stubbornly refuses to change its liquor policy which has impoverished the working population and degenerated popular culture in Tamil Nadu. Students and People’s Power activists who fought against TASMAC were arrested and jailed for many weeks.
Now, Comrade Kovan the lead singer of PALA cultural troupe has been arrested by the police at around 2.30 midnight today (30-10-2015) from his house at Trichy. He is charged under section 124A (sedition), 153 (attempt to create enmity between social groups) and 502/1 (sale any printed or engraved substance containing defamatory matter) by the Chennai city crime branch police. A special squad of around 10 policemen swooped into his house, roughed him up and took him into custody. His whereabouts are not known. The local police is also in the dark.
In the increasingly bizarre universe called Indian democracy, demanding shutdown of liquor shops has joined the long list of “seditious” activities, like drawing a cartoon, posting in Facebook or writing a magazine article.
We will not be cowed down by this oppression. The songs of PALA will continue to reverberate.
We call upon all democratic forces to fight these fascist oppression by spreading this message and the songs.
