Haryana ADGP Puran Kumar’s Suicide due to Caste Discrimination:
People’s Power Party Condemns
Haryana’s Additional DGP Y.Puran Kumar was found dead with gunshot wounds at his house in Chandigarh on October 7. In his nine-page “finalnote” written before committing suicide, he alleged that, he belonged to a Scheduled Caste and that several senior police and IAS officers, including DGP Kapoor and SP Bijarnia, had harassed him on caste-based grounds and subjected him to professional revenge.
His wife, an IAS officer, continued to fight for justice for Puran Kumar. Various parties across the country voiced their support for his struggle. As a result, sections including the SC/ST Prevention of Atrocities Act were included in the First Information Report. However, the Haryana DGP, who was accused of being the main perpetrator by Puran Kumar, has not been arrested. He has been sent on compulsory leave.
Incidents like this show us that caste-based atrocities against Dalits continue to persist, no matter how educated they are or what position they occupy.
Meanwhile, a police sub-inspector who was investigating a bribery case against Puran Kumar committed suicide yesterday. He has pointed out that Puran Kumar is a corrupt person and has taken up the caste issue to cover it up.
We should also look into whether the police sub-inspector has been sacrificed to save senior officials by diluting the case of Puran Kumar’s suicide.
The fascist BJP continues to rule in Haryana. It is worrying that a senior IPS officer is committing suicide because of caste-based atrocities against him, while we should also expose the criminality of the entire police establishment to cover up the problem.
Therefore, the People’s Power Party strongly condemns those responsible for the suicide of a senior IPS officer of Haryana due to caste violence and demands that all the police officers involved be immediately arrested and dismissed.
With Comradeship,
Comrade Vetrivel Chezhian,
State Secretary,
