நர்மதா விடுதியில் எனக்கு எதிராக நடத்தப்பட்ட தாக்குதல் மற்றும் கொலை முயற்சி குறித்த எனது பொது அறிக்கை:
நான் அப்பாண்டைராஜ் (Appandairaj A), தமிழ்நாட்டின் விழுப்புரம் மாவட்டத்தில் உள்ள ஒரு கிராமப்புற பின்னணியை சேர்ந்தவன்; தற்போது ஜே.என்.யூ-வில் முதலாம் ஆண்டு முனைவர் பட்டப்படிப்பு (Centre for International Politics Organisation and Disarmament, School of International Studies) பயின்று வருகிறேன். வளாகத்தில் என்னை ஒரு தமிழ், இடதுசாரி மற்றும் பால்புதுமையினர் என வெளிப்படையாக அடையாள படுத்திக் கொள்கிறேன். முனைவர் பட்டப்படிப்பு சேர்க்கைக்கு பிறகு, எனக்கு நர்மதா விடுதியில் தங்குமிடம் ஒதுக்கப்பட்டு இருந்தது. ஆரம்பத்தில் இருந்தே விடுதியின் வாட்ஸ் அப் குழுவில் எனது இடதுசாரி, தமிழ் மற்றும் பால்புதுமையினர் அடையாளங்களை குறிவைத்த இணையவழித் தாக்குதல்களுக்கு ஆளானேன். பெரும்பாலும் வலதுசாரி மாணவர்களால் இத்தாக்குதல்கள் நடத்தப்பட்டன. அக்டோபர் 3, 2025 அன்று இவை மிருகத்தனமான நேரடி தாக்குதல் மற்றும் கொலை முயற்சி என்ற உச்சத்தை அடைந்தன.
சம்பவம்:
03.10.2005 அன்று மதியம் 01:50 மணியளவில் நான் என் நண்பரின் ஸ்கூட்டியில் நர்மதா விடுதியின் உணவகத்திற்கு வந்தடைந்தேன். நான் வண்டியை நிறுத்தும்போது, ஸ்ரேயான்ஷ் (Integrated B.Tech. – MS & 1st year IRAS, SIS) என்ற மாணவன், என்னை அணுகி, அடையாளம் தெரியாத ஒரு பொருளைக் கொண்டு என் முகத்தில் பல முறை தொடர்ந்து தாக்கினான். அதே வேளையில், என்னை கொல்ல வேண்டும் என்ற தனது நோக்கத்தை வெளிப்படையாக கூறினான்.
நான் பாதுகாப்பு தேடி விடுதி காவலர்களை நோக்கி ஓடினேன். ஆனால் காவலர்கள் அவரை தடுக்க தவறிவிட்டனர். வலதுசாரி போக்குகளைக் கொண்ட சைனிக் பள்ளி பின்னணியை சேர்ந்த மாணவர் குழு ஒன்று, கூடி சிரித்து உற்சாகப்படுத்த, ஸ்ரேயான்ஷ் என்னைத் தொடர்ந்து தாங்கினான். இது தாக்குதலின் திட்டமிடப்பட்ட தன்மையை வெளிப்படுத்தியது.
ஸ்ரேயான்ஷ் தனது தாக்குதலை நியாயப்படுத்த என் மீது ஜோடிக்கப்பட்ட குற்றச்சாட்டுகளை கத்தியவாறு கூறிக்கொண்டிருந்த வேளையில் நான் அதிக ரத்தப்போக்குடன் பாதுகாப்பு காவலர்களின் அறைக்குள் தஞ்சமடைய முயன்றேன்.
30 நிமிடங்களுக்கும் மேலாக நான் எந்த முதலுதவியுமின்றி பாதுகாப்பு காவலர்களின் அறையில் அதிக ரத்தப்போக்குடன் அமர்ந்திருந்தேன். அதே நேரத்தில் குற்றவாளி சுதந்திரமாக சுற்றித்திரிந்தான். இன்னும் அவனது ஆதரவாளர்கள் அவனை உற்சாகப்படுத்திக் கொண்டிருந்தனர். இறுதியாக வார்டன் வந்தபோது, எனது மருத்துவ தேவைகளுக்கு முன்னுரிமை அளிப்பதற்கு பதிலாக, பார்வையாளர் அறையில் – ஒரு “விசாரணைக்கு” என்னை கட்டாயப்படுத்தினர். ரத்தப்போக்கு ஏற்பட்டு அதிர்ச்சியால் பாதி செயலிழந்த போதும் என் மீது தாக்குதல் நடத்தியவரின் அருகில் உட்கார வைக்கப்பட்டேன். 45 நிமிடங்களுக்கு மேலாக எனக்கு மருத்துவ உதவி மறுக்கப்பட்டது.
வாட்சப் குழுக்களில் SOS செய்தி (ஆபத்து ஏற்படும்போது உதவி வேண்டி அனுப்பப்படும் அவசர செய்தி) அனுப்பிய பின்னர் எனது இடதுசாரி மற்றும் தமிழ் நண்பர்கள் தலையிட்டனர். மனிதாபிமானமற்ற முறையில் நடந்த தாக்குதலுக்கு எதிர்ப்பு தெரிவித்தனர். நான் ஆம்புலன்ஸில் ஜே.என்.யூ சுகாதார மையத்திற்கு அழைத்துச் செல்லப்பட்டேன். பின்னர், AIIMS Trauma மையத்திற்கு பரிந்துரைக்கப்பட்டு, அங்கு எனது புருவங்கள், மூக்கு மற்றும் வாயில் 8 தையல்கள் போடப்பட்டன, அதோடு இரண்டு எலும்பு முறிவுகளுக்கும் (கன்னம் மற்றும் இடது கண்) சிகிச்சை கிடைத்தது.
சூழல்:
நர்மதா விடுதியில் ஸ்ரேயான்ஷ் உடன் எனது அறை ஒதுக்கப்பட்டியிருந்தது. ஒரு வாரம் மட்டுமே ஒருவரை ஒருவர் அறிந்திருந்தோம். உள்கட்டமைப்பு பிரச்சினைகள் மற்றும் அவரது செல்ல பூனையால் ஏற்பட்ட துர்நாற்றம் காரணமாக நான் அங்கு ஒருபோதும் தங்கவில்லை. எனது கடைசி வருகையின் போது அவர் தந்தையின் தொழில் (ஹோமியோபதி) மற்றும் பீகாரின் நில உரிமை குறித்து எங்கள் கருத்து வேறுபாடு வாதத்திற்கு வழி வகுத்தது. சிறிது நேரத்திலேயே, “உன்னுடன் அறையில் தங்குவதில் எனக்கு விருப்பமில்லை” என்று குறுஞ்செய்தியை அனுப்பினார். பின்னர் நான், வேறு ஏதேனும் காலி அறைகள் இருக்கிறதா என்று வாட்ஸ் அப் குழுக்களில் கேட்டிருந்தேன்.
இதனைத் தொடர்ந்து நடந்தது என்னவென்றால் எனது தமிழ் மற்றும் பால்புதுமையினர் என்ற அடையாளத்தின்மீது மனிதாபிமானமற்ற முறையில் திட்டமிட்ட தாக்குதல் நடந்தது. எனது உடல் எளிதில் தாக்கப்பட்டு கொல்லப்படக்கூடிய ஒன்றாக கருதப்பட்டது. விடுதியில் ஆதிக்கம் செலுத்தும் மனிதத் தன்மையற்ற ஆணாதிக்க வலதுசாரிகளின் உறுதுணையோடு ஆன்லைன் குழுக்களில் தாக்குதல் நடத்தப்பட்டது.
இந்த தாக்குதலுக்கு ஒரு வாரத்திற்கு முன்பு, நர்மதா விடுதியில் என்னுடைய பாதுகாப்பு குறித்த கவலையை வெளிப்படுத்தி டீனுக்கு (Dean) மின்னஞ்சல் அனுப்பியிருந்தேன் என்பதையும் கவனத்தில் கொள்ள வேண்டும். ஆன்லைன் குழுக்களில் என் மீது செலுத்தப்பட்ட வக்கிரமான தாக்குதலின் ஸ்கிரீன்ஷாட்-களையும் வார்டனுக்குக் காட்டியிருந்தேன். நடவடிக்கை எடுப்பதற்கு பதிலாக அவற்றை ”புறக்கணிக்குமாறு” என்னிடம் கூறினார். எனது கோரிக்கைகள் மற்றும் கவலைகள் நிராகரிக்கப்பட்டன. இதன் விளைவாக இந்த தாக்குதல் நடந்தேறியுள்ளது.
எனது கோரிக்கைகள்:
ஜே.என்.யூ வளாகத்திற்குள் நடந்த இந்த மிருகத்தனமான தாக்குதலில் இருந்து உயிர் பிழைத்தவனான எனது கோரிக்கைகளுக்கு, பல்கலைக்கழக நிர்வாகம் உடனடியாக நடவடிக்கை எடுக்கும்மாறு கோருகிறேன்.
- ஜே.என்.யூ வளாகத்திலிருந்து ஷ்ரேயான்ஷை உடனடியாக வெளியேற்றி பிரிவு – III குற்றத்திற்காக, அவரின் மீது முறையான விசாரணையை பல்கலைக்கழக ஓழுங்குகாவலர் (proctor) தொடங்க வேண்டும்.
- வன்முறையில் ஈடுபட்டவர்களை ஆதரித்து, மாணவர்களை பாதுகாக்க தவறிய நர்மதா விடுதியின் அனைத்து வார்டன்கள் மற்றும் அதிகாரிகளை உடனடியாக மாற்ற வேண்டும்.
- சைனிக் பள்ளி ஆணாதிக்க, வலதுசாரியினர் ஆதிக்கம் செலுத்தும் நர்மதா விடுதியினை மறு சீரமைத்து அவர்களின் ஆதிக்கத்தை முடிவுக்கு கொண்டுவர வேண்டும்.
- தமிழ் மற்றும் பால்புதுமையினராகிய நான் பாதுகாப்பாக வாழக்கூடிய வகையில் ஒரு மாற்று விடுதி ஒதுக்கித் தரப்பட வேண்டும்.
- வன்முறைக்கு ஆளான மாணவர்கள் காயம் அடைந்திருக்கும் போது விசாரணைக்கு அவர்களை கட்டாயப்படுத்தாமல் அவசர மருத்துவ முதலுதவி பெறுவதை உறுதி செய்யும் வகையில் பாதிக்கப்பட்டவர் பராமரிப்பு நடைமுறைகளை (survivor care protocol) மாற்றியமைத்தல் வேண்டும்.
- பால்புதுமையினர் மற்றும் இன / மொழி அடையாள சமத்துவ உணர்வை வளர்க்கும் விழிப்புணர்வு நிகழ்ச்சிகளை ஜே.என்.யூ முழுவதும் நடத்துதல் வேண்டும். இதன் மூலம் பால்புதுமையினர் மற்றும் இந்தி அல்லாத மாணவர்கள் பாதுகாப்பாக உணர முடியும்.
இந்த தாக்குதல் என்பது ஒரு தனிநபர் மீதான தாக்குதல் மட்டுமல்ல ஜே.என்.யூ-வில் உள்ள அனைத்து ஒடுக்கப்பட்ட மாணவர்களின் கண்ணியம் மற்றும் பாதுகாப்பு மீதான தாக்குதலாகும். எனது தமிழ், இடதுசாரி மற்றும் பால்புதுமையினர் அடையாளங்களுக்காக இழிவுபடுத்தப்பட்டு கூட்டாக குறி வைத்து தாக்கப்பட்டடேன். இந்த கொலை முயற்சியில் நான் மிகவும் சிரமப்பட்டே தப்பித்தேன்; இருப்பினும் நான் அமைதியாக இருக்க மாட்டேன்.

My Public Statement on the Premeditated Physical Assault and Attempt to Murder Against Me in Narmada Hostel:
I, Appandairaj A, come from a rural village in Villupuram district, Tamil Nadu, and am currently a first-year PhD scholar at CIPOD, SIS, JNU. I openly identify as a Tamil, Leftist, and queer person on campus. After my PhD admission, I was allotted accommodation in Narmada Hostel. From the beginning, I was subjected to coordinated online attacks in the hostel’s WhatsApp group, targeting my Leftist, Tamil, and queer identities. These attacks, largely led by right-wing students, culminated in a brutal physical assault and attempt to murder on 3rd October 2025.
The Incident:
On 03.10.2025 around 1:50 pm, I arrived at the Narmada Hostel mess on my friend’s scooty. As I parked, Shreyansh (a JNU student pursuing Integrated B.Tech–MS and currently 1st year IRAS, SIS) approached me and began punching my face repeatedly with his closed fist, using an unknown object, while openly expressing his intent to kill me.
I ran towards the hostel security guards seeking protection, but they failed to restrain him. Shreyansh continued attacking me as a group of students—mostly from Sainik School backgrounds with right-wing tendencies—assembled, laughed, and cheered him on, revealing the premeditated nature of the assault. Shreyansh shouted fabricated allegations to justify his attack while I, bleeding profusely, tried to take shelter inside the security cabin.
For over 30 minutes, I sat bleeding in the security guard’s cabin without any first aid, while the perpetrator roamed freely, still cheered on by his supporters. When the warden finally arrived, instead of prioritising my medical needs, I was forced into an “inquiry” in the visitor’s room—made to sit next to my assaulter while bleeding and semi-paralysed from trauma. I was denied medical assistance for over 45 minutes.
Only after sending SOS messages in WhatsApp groups did my Leftist and Tamil friends intervene. They objected to the inhumane treatment and rushed me to the JNU Health Centre in an ambulance. I was then referred to AIIMS Trauma Centre, where I received 8 stitches on my eyebrows, nose, and mouth, along with treatment for two fractures (chin and left eye).
Context:
I had known the perpetrator for barely a week, after being allocated a room with him in Narmada. I never stayed there due to infrastructural issues and the stench caused by his pet cat. On my last visit, we had a verbal disagreement over his father’s profession (homeopathy) and land ownership in Bihar. Shortly after, he texted me saying he did not wish to be my roommate. I then publicly asked in WhatsApp groups if any other vacant rooms were available.
What followed, however, was a deliberate dehumanisation of my Tamil and queer identity. My body was treated as one that could be easily attacked and killed, emboldened by a hostel atmosphere dominated by toxic masculine right-wing elements who targeted me continuously in online groups.
It must also be noted that a week before this attack, I had already mailed the Dean of Students about my safety concerns in Narmada Hostel. I even showed the screenshots of extremely offensive messages to the warden. Instead of acting, I was told to “ignore” them. My concerns were dismissed, and the consequences have been catastrophic.
My Demands:
As a survivor of this brutal assault inside JNU campus, I demand that the administration take urgent action:
- Immediate expulsion of Shreyansh from JNU campus and initiation of a proper proctorial inquiry against him for a Category-III offence.
- Immediate replacement of all wardens and officials of Narmada Hostel, who have consistently sided with perpetrators of violence and failed to protect students.
- Reconstitution of Narmada Hostel’s resident composition to end its character as a toxic masculine den dominated by Sainik School men.
- Allotment of an alternate hostel where I can live safely as a Tamil and queer person.
- Implementation of a survivor-care protocol ensuring that students subjected to violence receive urgent medical first aid without being forced into interrogations while injured.
- Queer sensitization and ethno-linguistic diversity sensitization programmes across JNU so that queer and non-Hindi students can feel safe on campus.
This attack was not just on me as an individual but it was an attack on the dignity and safety of all marginalised students in JNU. My Tamil, Leftist, and queer identities were collectively targeted, dehumanised, and violently assaulted. I barely survived this attempt to murder, but I refuse to be silenced.
