Red Salute to Naxalbari Revolutionary Comrade Sampath!

Press Release

Dear working people, democratic forces!

Comrade Kumar alias Comrade Sampath (70), a Leading Committee member of State Organising Committee, Communist Party of India (Marxist-Leninist) and editor of “Purtchi Puyal” (Revolutionary Storm) ideological magazine and former editor of “Puthiya Jananayagam” magazine, died of cancer on 17th of November, 2025 at 02:15 pm in Chennai.

We pay our red salute to Comrade Sampath, who embraced Naxalbari revolutionary politics and dedicated himself to revolution for almost 50 years.

Throughout his life, he defended the foundational principles of the Naxalbari movement and Marxist-Leninist ideology. He upheld the mass line path of the SOC. He fought firmly against left extremism, right opportunism, liquidationism, and various anarchist tendencies prevalent among many M-L groups.

Since the inception of “Puthiya Jananayagam” magazine, Comrade Sampath has played multiple roles, including its editor for more than 30 years.

He never tolerated imperialists or ruling class supporters. He was never swayed by grandiose words or gimmicks. He ruthlessly criticized attacks on the working class and State violence on revolutionaries. His articles in “Puthiya Jananayagam” and “Puratchi Puyal” stand as testimonies to this.

Furthermore, he was an active member of the Chennai branch of the People’s Art and Literary Association when it was founded; and involved himself in nurturing the Revolutionary Student-Youth Front when it was founded. He worked as an advisor to some branches of the New Democratic Labour Front for a few years.

He provided advice to two organisational conferences and two political conferences of Makkal Athikara Kazhagam (People’s Power Party).

He has played a significant role in conducting various political and ideological classes for comrades associated with the above mentioned organisations and nurturing them. He also has consistently provided support and advice for several publications brought out on behalf of our organisations.

A one-week mourning period is being observed by our organisations in memory of Comrade Sampath.

For fifty years, comrade Sampath dedicated himself to the Naxalbari revolutionary politics and its growth, enduring harsh struggles. His memories will remain a shining star in the history of the Naxalbari movement and the Indian revolution! By adhering to his revolutionary qualities, we pledge to achieve the Indian revolution!
