This magazine, named ‘New Democracy’ (puthiya jananayagam in Tamil), now in your hands is a new venture launched in an effort to reach English readers.
Puthiya Jananayagam (New Democracy) is the only Marxist-Leninist Tamil monthly in the history of Tamil Communist magazines being published continuously from 1985.
Puthiya Jananayagam played an integral role in bringing Marxist- Leninist –Mao tse tung thought and revolutionary politics to the working people of Tamilnadu and the Tamil speaking revolutionary forces and sympathizers across the world and continues to do so to this day.
Puthiya Jananayagam articles that featured in the late 80’s and 90’s, analyse the Eezham Tamil liberation struggle of SriLanka through a Marxist-Leninist view; It clearly exposes the weakness of this movement and the conspiracies of India, the regional super power of South Asia. Also it has given a perspective on the Nepal people’s heroic democratic struggle
against monarchy.
Our magazine had the foresight over the grave consequences of the Liberalisation – Privatisation – Globalisation (LPG) policies that were imposed on us, and declared it as the re-colonisation strategy of the imperialist camp led by the US super power and its western imperialist allies. It also foresaw the then-emerging threats from the Hindutva (Brahmanical) Fascism as early as in the nineties. The magazine continues to remain the foundation for a revolutionary organization.
Puthiya Jananayagam is welcomed with enthusiasm for its correct application of the Marxist-Leninist perspective in approaching every political–socio –economic issues; it expose the program of Imperialist’s re-colonisation and their Indian stooges; it expose the revisionists, opportunists, anarchists, the advocators of identity politics, from a proletarian stand point. It expose the Hindutva fascists agenda and upholds the people’s struggle against it.
It is a long-felt aspiration of our comrades to carry on the debates and discussions in English with other Marxist-Leninist organizations in India and around the world. Now the Hindutva (saffron)- Corporate Fascism endangers the country, it is imperative that all the revolutionary and democratic forces need to be mobilized and united.
It is necessary for building up a national level anti-fascist democratic front becomes a must and the publication of Puthiya Jananayagam in English plays as a tool to achieve it. Selected articles and commentaries were published in Tamil are reproduced here in English. We try to publish this magazine frequently. We hope our ardent supporters and sympathizers of the revolution will welcome this effort.
We salute the countless revolutionaries of the Marxist-Leninist movement and other revolutionary – democratic movements martyred for the cause of a new democratic revolution in India to liberate millions of people. We promise to follow their revolutionary path!
