We invite you to the press Conference to be held on behalf of Makkal Athikaram on 8.9.2018 at 12 PM on Saturday at Chennai Press Club, Chepauk
Dr. Anand Teltumbde, General secratery, Committee for Protection of Democratic Rights, will address the press conference.
The press conference is to condemn the arrests, illegal raids and the orchestrated smear campaign by the Maharashtra police and the Modi govt, against renowned civil rights activists, lawyers and writers. Dr. Anand Teltumbde, a public intellectual, is one of the targets of this offensive.
Presently Mr.Teltumbde works as a Senior professor and Chair, Big Data Analytics, Goa Institute of Management. He has held senior positions as Executive Director Bharath Petroleum, C E O of Petronet and has also taught at IIT, Kharagpur.
Despite his corporate career, he has been a defender of peoples’ democratic rights, and a harsh critique of the anti people policies of all the governments. He is a regular contributor to the Economic and Political Weekly and has authored several books on Dr.Ambedkar, the dalit movement and the left movements. His recent book is ‘Republic of Caste’, in which he launches a searring attack against the attempts of the Sangh parivar to saffronise Dr.Ambedkar.
On 28th august, 2018, the Maharashtra police, illegally opened and raided Mr.Teltumbde’s Goa house, when he was away in Mumbai. His wife (Dr.Ambedkar’s granddaughter) had to rush from Mumbai to her house, mainly to find out whether anything was planted by the police. It is relevant to note here, that the name of Jignesh Mewani is also included in the fabricated letter alleging maoist conspiracy against Modi. So much for his infamous reverence towards Dr.Ambedkar!
Though “#me too urban naxal” has evolved into a widespread protest movement in the social media, the Maharashtra police continues to spread canards, against the activists. The Mumbai H.C and the Supreme Court have pulled up the ADGP, Maharashtra for holding a Press Conference over a matter which is sub-judice. The S.C has also extended the house arrest of the 5 activists till sep 12th.
What next? Would the intervention of the courts, deter the Modi Govt? How to resist this fascist onslaught?
